Polite, gentlemanly, she could go on but he still rubbed her the wrong way in a sense. She almost wished it was over but in the back of her mind had other thoughts that she’d rather be pushed to the back burner.
“Intuition.”
She felt his hand rest on her back as they moved into the building, and she rubbed her shoulders.
“Why are we here?”

“Of course.”
He hardly believes her.
Katja’s hand drops to rest at his side once he’s closed the door behind her. “Hotels disgust me. I thought I’d stay somewhere a little more homely.”
( Most likely meaning he compelled the owner of the household to take a hike for a few days –– literally).
